You Don't Have to Go It Alone
Do you know someone who worked hard or took a risk and changed their life for the better, then screwed it all up and went right back to where they started?
Sobriety, weight loss, becoming debt free, we’ve all seen (or been!) that person. We scratched our heads and wondered why they (or we) threw it all away after all that effort.
When you make a life change or heal an old wound, it changes how you see yourself. It changes how you function in the world. For example, now you’re in a relationship with someone who can actually be a good partner. But you’ve never had that before.
Maybe it’s overwhelming. Maybe you don’t know how to communicate in a healthy way.
Perhaps you’ve lost a lot of weight now you have to learn how to move in your new body. Everyone looks at you and treats you differently. How do you deal with that?
Or now that you’re you’re sober you feel completely socially awkward. You’re having all of the feelings your substance of choice used to smooth over. How do you cope now? Right?
There is a major difference between those who sustain the changes they’ve worked hard for and those who don’t: the ability to tolerate the unknown.
What can you do in order to keep your progress?
Build a support team. Include at least one friend or family member who believes in you and supports your mission. Find other people who have done something what you are doing.
If you feel like you are the only person to ever go through this and no one could possibly understand, I guarantee you’re wrong about that, you just may be too isolated to know that you are not alone. We have the internet now, get out there and search for your tribe and your mentors.
A licensed counselor is a valuable resource, they can help you develop coping and communication skills for new situations. If you can access mental health care, I recommend it.
A skilled and well trained Reiki healer can be a valuable asset. They can help relieve the stress of change. They can help you connect with the parts of you that are untouched by your troubles so that you can have a small sample of what it’s like to live as your best self.
Reiki can provide support and comfort to help ease your anxiety and fears. Reiki can even remove obstacles to your success.
Remember why you are doing this thing in the first place? Reiki can bring awareness and clarity to the surface so you know where you need help. You can take that information to the other members of your support team, not with a desperate plea of “Help me!” but clear questions.
If you are making big changes and feeling completely scared, vulnerable, lost or stupid; you are doing great! The harder it is and the more incompetent you feel, the steeper the learning curve you’re climbing.
If you’re climbing a steep curve and learning lots of hard things, you are a badass.
Keep going, badass! Just keep going.
